Oban Mod and Concert
June 2005
The Lismore school children enjoyed considerable success at this year’s Mod in Oban. Murray Willis Colin Black, and Kirsty Wright were all first in their solo singing classes, and Eilidh Willis first in Poetry Recitation. Calum MacGillivary gained a second in poetry recitation and John Carmichael and Eoghan Perkins a third. Joe Derham gained a second in solo singing, Eileen Carmichael a third and Shona Wright was specially mentioned for lovely singing.
Both the choir and action song were well received, the choir getting a third and the action song a second.

On Saturday 18 June the children performed their mod entries in front of an enthusiastic audience in the hall (see photos below). In addition to the above, Ian MacLean of Oban played the accordion, Lorn MacDougall the fiddle and Rachel Crossan-Hopkins from Benderloch was guest reciter.
The highlight of the evening was the recorder group’s spirited rendition of Bizet’s Habanera from Carmen which they had been unable to perform at the Mod as they had been storm bound.
The Fear-a Tighe for the evening was Mary MacDougall and afterwards Head Teacher Freda MacGregor thanked all the children and parents and in particular Mary for her work with the singers and reciters, Anne Livingstone for teaching the dancers and Katy Wright for conducting the recorder group. The evening ended with refreshments from Neil Carmichael and helpers, and after the audience had left the young people danced to the music of the Two Duncans’ Disco.
