Consultants Appointed

September 2005

Work on making the Gaelic Heritage Museum a reality is continuing in many directions and recently

Comann Eachdraidh Liosmor appointed Consultants Liz Buckle and Mel Whewell to design interpretative panels and produce a visitor management strategy for the project.

At the same time Lismore and Appin Communities have appointed a firm of Consultants to produce an interpretative and visitor management strategy for the combined communities. The successful team- Small Town and Rural Development - will report in December 2005. The work is being funded by Scottish Natural Heritage and the contract is being run by Comann Eachdraidh Liosmor and a steering group consisting of themselves, Lismore Community Council, Comunn Gaidlaig na h-Apainn, Appin Community Cooperative Ltd., and community representatives.

Residents of Lismore and Appin will be extensively consulted and it is hoped that in working together untold benefits will accrue for both. Making the area attractive to visitors while at the same time improving the social and economic well being of the residents will be seen in the context of sustainable development. It is hoped that as many people as possible will take part in the consultations which will probably take the form of questionnaires and meetings.

Lismore alone has so much to offer the visitor already (although not yet the cup of tea they all want), but at the moment someone stepping off the ferry at Achnacroich or Point with no prior knowledge through the website or guide book, is lost.

This group knew where to come as they are directors of the Comann Eachdraidh and members of the Nadair Trust

This group from France knew where to go as they had looked at the website
