Ceilidh Dance for

Comann Eachdraidh Lios Mor

13 August 2004

Lismore was treated to a star studded Ceilidh Dance thanks to the hard work of  Alex and Agnes MacLean of North Connel who gathered together the singing talents of double Gold medallist Margaret MacLellan and gold medallist Raymond Bremner who were joined  by the impressive piping of a very young Calum MacColl from Lochaber, the singing of F Ann Maclean (North Connel) Charlie MacColl and Roddy MacDonald (Lochaber),  and Morag Smith from Oban. From the moment they began until they reluctantly left for the 11.30 ferry, the hall rang with music of the highest calibre which showed not only their artistry and love of performing but also their infectious sense of fun.

Between the acts the Benderloch trio’s equally lively playing had everyone dancing to their Canadian Barn dance, Strip the Willow, and Highland Scottische among others, and 3 local singers, Freda MacGregor, Duncan Livingstone and Katy Crossan ably complemented the visitors.

The MacLeans organised the Ceilidh Dance to raise funds for Comann  Eachdraidh Liosmor and both artists and organisers generously waived their fees for which they were warmly thanked by Chairman Donald Black on behalf of the whole island. It was generally agreed that Lismore had never known a ceilidh like it and it would talked about for a long time as the gold standard from which all others would be judged.
