Charity Run 25th May 2014

Lismore locals Rurigdh and Josie McMeddes are taking part in the Edinburgh Half Marathon on the 25th of May to raise money for Syria.

This will be Josie and Rurigdh's third marathon each, and they will both be hoping for new best times following Rurigdh's 1:43:00 in Glasgow last October, and Josie's 2:20:00 in Bath this March. You can sponsor them here:

The pair are part of a team fundraising effort with the organisation 'HOMS: Movies and Marathons for Syria', (link: an organisation Rurigdh co-founded last October who hold donation based film nights in Edinburgh, as well as competing in sponsored sports events, all to raise money for British charity Hand in Hand for Syria. HOMS has five athletes taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on the 24th and 25th of May, including Josie's fiancÚ Oliver Tulloch who will be doing the full marathon, and Jacob Walker who will be doing the 10k. Hand in Hand for Syria are one of the only charities still able to work within Syria getting aid to those who need it the most. Remarkably the do not take any cut from donations to cover their costs, which are covered entirely by gift aid, meaning 100% of donations to them reaches the people in need. Recently they have built and re-opened hospitals and carried out vital polio vaccinations throughout the country, while their research has been published in academic journal the Lancet.
