Grand Opening of Cafe Liosbeag 12th January 2014

Sunday 12th January was a new start on Lismore in more ways than one. It was of course the Old New Year, which is a date still celebrated on the island, it was also the grand opening of Liosbeag Café which is run by Kiki MacColl.

When we arrived at Liosbeag, the first thing we noticed was the warm and welcoming atmosphere, the laughter, the chinking of glasses, and as we stepped inside we werenít disappointed. There was a full house bar one table, which we quickly nabbed! Kiki had her staff were all smiling, happy and keen to help in any way possible, she had also roped in several family members to help with tidying up, doing the dishes and generally helping out. There was a lovely community/family atmosphere, people had turned out in their droves to wish Kiki well and to join in celebrating the opening of Liosbeag.

Atmosphere and community spirit aside, when we visit any cafe, the main purpose is to eat. Liosbeag certainly didnít disappoint, there was a choice of homemade soups, followed by hot filled rolls (all homemade), a large selection of home bakes, and I cannot fail to mention Kikiís tablet, which is to die for! Despite being run off her feet, Kiki made a point of speaking to everybody personally to ensure that we were enjoying our meals and having a good time. I think everybody would agree, it was a rip roaring success and a real taste of things to come.

Liosbeag is open every Tuesday until April 1st when it will be open full time. Also look out for special theme nights/days, and if youíd like to make a booking you can call Kiki on 01631760020.
