Storm, power cut and snow on 4th December 2011

Snow image

With a brilliant flash of lightening and the following crash of thunder, many islanders woke this morning with the realisation that we had had the first snow of the season. This happy feeling was marred for some at the south end of the island by finding that the storm had taken out the power. However, Scottish Hydro was soon on the case and by 10.30 power was back on at Achnacroish.

The weather changed all day – rain, sleet, hail, snow and even occassional sunshine – and sadly the snow didn't settle. The photograph above was taken at about 4.30 pm by when most of the snow had gone. Could a white Christmas be on the way?

It seems that we may have been too quick to say that the problems are over. We are hearing reports of people still without phone / broadband. The school café has been cancelled (see here). If you have been badly affected, let us know using the link above.

Indeed it does look like we are in for snow on Sunday. We heard the bang very loudly here too on Sunday morning.
