Part-Time Assistant Museum Curator

Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
15 hours per week for 18 months, possibly extendable to 2 years; Salary £10,000 p.a.

Applications are invited for the above position, which is available from 1 August 2011. Based at the Isle of Lismore Gaelic Heritage Museum (Ionad Naomh Moluag), the successful candidate will be responsible for widening the access by the public to the collections, archive and events of the museum.

Key duties will include working with the curatorial team to become familiar with the nature of the museum’s collections, and the history of the island; developing a programme of events for schoolchildren on Lismore and the adjacent mainland; collaborating with the curators to mount travelling exhibitions: taking the lead in planning the proposed “annexe” to the museum; liaising with other museums; and drawing on the experience of these duties to draw up a longer-term plan for access to the museum’s collections.

The principal qualification for this post is the possession of excellent communication skills, acquired by training in education, drama, the creative arts, museum curation or another discipline. Evidence of relevant work experience will be sought. A full driving licence will be required.
