Lismore flies the Fairtrade flags

22 sections of a banner were handed out on a Sunday recently to an unsuspecting Lismore congregation, who were asked to take them away, decorate them with some reference to Fairtrade and return them the following Sunday.

Lismore's Fairtrade representative, Anne Livingstone, was delighted by the response and imaginative efforts made by everyone involved, including the Sunday School. The sections will be returned to Fairtrade HQ who hope that the countrywide response will make up 2.5 miles of banner, as part of their main annual drive to raise the profile of all the work achieved worldwide in helping farmers through fairer trade.

Lismore is well on its way to becoming a Fairtrade island, with Fairtrade products being used in the Heritage Centre café, in the Village Hall and sold in the shop. Once the Primary School is also accepted as meeting the necessary criteria, Lismore will be officially recognised as a Fairtrade island.
