Gaelic Weekend
Thirteen
students from Edinburgh and their teacher Anne
Paterson travelled to Lismore to be tutored in Gaelic and to spend the weekend
on an island where the Gaelic culture is active.
On the Saturday morning they were tutored by Margaret MacDonald and Paddy
MacNicol and in the afternoon given a tour in the community bus driven by Ian
MacKinnon with Donald Black as their guide.
A ceilidh dance in the public hall rounded off the day chaired by Duncan
Livingstone with songs from eight-year-old singer Sophie King, and adults Gregor
Lawrie and Duncan Livingstone. The students’ choir also sang with some solos
from the visitors. The band for the evening was the very accomplished Cast Ewe
Ceilidh Band who are always very well received. Tea coffee and home baking was
served.
The Committee of Comann Eachdraidh Lios Mor are very grateful to Gaelic teacher Anne Paterson who has been bringing her students to Lismore for several years. A vote of thanks to all who organised and participated in a very successful evening was proposed by John Livingstone.
