River Needle Story

On Lismore Sheep Farm in Nova Scotia, John Crawford is manufacturing birch wood knitting needles which are now available in the Museum shop on the island, which brings him full circle as, before moving to Canada, he farmed on Lismore at Kilcheran.
Birch, and wood in general, John says, has superior tensile strength and is warm to the touch unlike plastic and metal. The needles are light but strong, smooth without being slippery as their only finish is a fine coating of wax, which also helps to give the needles a bit of grip. So if you fancy trying Johnís needles you can get them when you visit Lismore Museum or look up the River John Needle Company on the web.
