Uganda presentation

The head teacher of Lismore primary school, Jennifer Kirkwood, recently presented photographs and reflections from her visit to rural Masindi, Uganda  following her Summer visit there in 2008 with 14 other education professionals. Jenniferís presentation pointed up the huge differences between school life in Lismore and that in Masindi where schools  cannot afford food, adequate books and learning aids, clean water or transport. Yet the children were extremely grateful for their education, very keen to learn and, despite having very few resources were all in the smartest, sprucest school uniform of which they were very proud. Having no transport meant that many had to walk miles to  school even before lessons began and  if they went home at lunch time there was no chance of getting back for the afternoon.
