School Showcase Day

Lismore Primary school ended the first school term by inviting islanders to their Showcase Day where both the pre-fives and the primary pupils showed us what they had been learning and creating in their project week. Pre-fives had been learning about  people in the community who are there to help e.g. the nurse, the doctor, post woman, shopkeeper etc. and the primary children had been studying structure in all its forms. Not only did they study the structure of fairy/folk tales but they designed and built a very impressive three dimensional fairy tale kingdom which covered a great deal of the classroom. The event was well attended and the work impressive. Both groups came together to perform a fairytale based play and at the end of the afternoon children and visitors joined together to sing Christmas carols.

The staff and children of Lismore primary school had been hoping to present Winnie MacNicol with a thank you gift for all the work she has done over many years teaching music in the school. Unfortunately the weather was so bad that Winnie couldn’t get across from Port Appin and the presentation was made in her absence, as this was the second attempt to recognise her hard work and dedication. Lismore has a great many young musicians and the island has reason to be grateful to Winnie for giving them a great start. We will miss her weekly visits.
