Green Flag Presentation

Lismore Primary School presented their eco credentials to islanders recently as part of their application to obtain a Green Flag award the highest achievement for an Eco-School. The pupils and staff  have been working for several years and already have the bronze award. Mary MacDougall introduced each child who presented some aspect of their application. The presentation started with one of the pupils telling us what an eco school was and the many areas they had to cover and how we at home could be more eco friendly. Then each child presented an aspect of the project telling us how they have developed the school garden, built a wormery, recycled waste of every description, grown vegetables in their polytunnel, picked up litter wherever it occurred, saved water, power and much much more. At the same time they were learning how plants grew and what they needed, how everything depended on everything else and the importance of everyone doing their bit so the future is bright for Lismore and the whole earth.
We wish them luck with this important work.
