Cantilena Festival Players

10 July 2007

The String Quartet’s visit to Lismore was enthusiastically received by a capacity audience with many people remarking on the excellent acoustic in the Exhibition room of the Ionad Naomh Moluag Museum. The Players were visiting as part of their contribution to the Scottish Highlands Year of Culture. Angus Ramsay and Gillian Leitch (violins) are normally members of the Scottish Opera Orchestra, as is Stephen Shakeshaft (viola) while Adrian Shepherd (cello) is, among other things, Professor at Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

They played a Mozart Divertimento,  Schubert and Haydn Quartets, the well known  Boccherini Minuet (made famous in the film "The Ladykillers", and an arrangement of Puccini’s Nessun Dorma, from the opera Turandot.

Their bright clear sound was perfect for the exhibition room and it was great that Lismore could be part of the Scottish Highlands Year of Culture.

Thanks to SGE Green for the photos.
