Liberal Democrats’ Visit

26 August 2006

George Lyon MSP and Alan Reid MP were on Lismore recently to meet with Councillor Elaine Robertson and the Community Council as well as to hold some private surgeries. The frustration at the lack of any progress on the ferry issue was high on the agenda for everyone as well as the poor state of the medical services since the island lost its relief nurse. This is having an enormous impact on the nurse practitioner who has no relief from 5pm on a weekday and throughout the weekend. Islanders at these times have access to the Port Appin Surgery who are totally dependent on the weather and whether the ferrymen are willing/available to cross. There was concern too that Scottish water were bringing a supply across to the Primary School while not supplying any private houses or public buildings on the route.
