CELM visit to Morvern Heritage Society – October 2005

Eleven members of the Comann Eachdraidh and volunteers who had worked to keep Taigh Iseabal open all Summer, travelled in the Lismore Community Bus to Lochaline where they were guests of the Morven Heritage Society. After a very warm welcome they visited the silica sand operation where the finest of sand is mined for use in optical instruments. Lunch included three kinds of soup, sandwiches, a glass of wine, tea, coffee, and home baking and was followed by visits to the old pier, Keil Church and the nearby medieval carved stones, and then to the famous old laundry at Ardtornish estate where there was an impressive range of very effective contraptions for drying clothes. They also managed to see the remains of a mill and a bronze age burial cairn before heading back in the late afternoon.
