Comann Eachdraidh Ceilidh/Dance

5th August 2005

A rich and varied programme was greatly appreciated by the audience at the Comann Eachdraidh Ceilidh/Dance. In her welcome Bean An Taighe, Agnes MacLean, said that it was a continuation of last year’s very successful ceilidh and passed on greetings from singer Raymond Bremner who was very disappointed to be missing the fun as he was in Canada. Many of the performers were familiar from last year but there were a few new faces including the very lively Sarah Naylor Band – Sarah on fiddle, Douglas Millar on Keyboard and Stuart Cameron on accordion – who, with their skilful and lively playing, made the dancing a real pleasure to do and to watch.

Calum MacColl’s beautiful piping introduced the evening and the high standard he set was well maintained by the visiting singers – Charlie MacColl, F Ann MacLean, Jimmy Cameron, Morag Smith, Archie MacLean, and double gold medallist Margaret MacLellan, as well as the local artists, Mary MacDougall, Freda MacGregor and Duncan Livingstone.

It was a great treat to hear piper Angus Nicholson team up with Sarah Naylor for 3 very energetic and thrilling jigs on small pipes and fiddle. Angus and Sarah are both from Skye and obviously know each other's playing well.

Proceeds from the evening will go to the Comann Eachdraidh's continuing fund raising for the Gaelic Museum which will make such a great difference to the island when it is built some time next year.

Thanks to F Ann Maclean for contributing to the photo gallery below. Thanks to to all the artists and organisers.
