Crocus Walk on 1st May 2004

The sun shone from a clear sky as 35 women and children set out to walk from the hall to Point and back – a ten mile hike for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Breakthrough is a charity committed to fighting breast cancer through awareness and research and this spring was encouraging groups, communities, indeed anyone to cover the country in crocuses and help create a world free from the fear of breast cancer. There was a great spirit of fun along the way, the children clutching balloons and even the youngest walking the 5 miles to Point cheered along by those sunning themselves in their gardens who generously filled the collection bucket. Beth Campbell and Ellen Slingsby organised the walk and afterwards provided much needed refreshments in the hall. The afternoon raised an astonishing 1001, 861 from sponsors and the rest in gift aid.
