Stayed on Lismore at Calgary, Laggan for 4 nights earlier this month. It was nowhere near long enough. We had a fantastic time with many many laughs with special friends who have moved onto Lismore. We now know why they like it so much! On the day we arrived home we have booked to return in February.

Pleased you had a good time.

Just had another special holiday at Point House for a week. Bikes got us to both castles for first time and walked to all our favourite spots. We enjoyed the McColl talk at the heritage centre on Wed. 4 dry days out the 7!! We will be back.

Glad you enjoyed the island.

We moved to the Island almost three years ago and have had a wonderful life changing experience. We would like to thank you all for the support along the way. A special thank you to all the folk who gave us the chance to to stay as long as we did, you will know who you are. We are very sad to be leaving and if we strike it lucky in the future then we would love to return. We still have outstanding work on the Island over the next few weeks so we hope to catch up with some of you then. Bye for now, Alan and Tina Walker.

I live in the Southwestern USA and my ancestors are from Clan Maclea-Livingston. I am an organic gardener and I love the pictures of the kids' vegetable garden. We have pipe bands and caber tossing here, too.

Visited the Island today (18.09.2011) in beautiful sunshine. Calm Ferry Trip (at only £3 return, excellent value for money) and a pleasant walk on the island and beach for an hour before our return journey.

My husband, Alan and I spent a lovely day on Lismore on Saturday, August 13th 2011. It was an unexpected visit. We had planned to visit Tiree, but a broken down ferry put paid to that idea. However, Lismore did not disappoint, it was an unexpected pleasure. We brought our bikes over on the ferry and cycled from ferry point to ferry point via the cafe, where we enjoyed a wonderful coffee and a chat to staff. Your cafe, museum and shop are a credit to you. We both think they need more publicity to encourage people from the mainland to visit, leaflets and posters in the Tourist Information etc. They are hidden gems and need be be celebrated. Great island, lovely road to cycle on, super, peaceful day.

Thank you for the great comments and glad you enjoyed your visit. We will try to improve on the publicity on the mainland.

Hi, I'm a descendent of Daniel Carmichael who came from the Isle of Lismore in the 18th century. His wife was Katherine Calhoun Carmichael. I'm not sure if there are any Carmichaels left on the Island but I will try to get whatever history I can while there. I will be coming to visit the Isle in either Sept, Oct or Nov. From the comments I read from others it may be hard to leave after I get there. Can't wait to see it all in person.

There are Carmichaels still on the Island. A visit to the Heritage Centre would certainly be worthwhile when you are here.

Visited the island via the Port Appin ferry - interesting trip and a very friendly welcome from the crew. Walked down to the cafe & Museum - it is a longish, but beautiful, walk and both are well worth the effort - nice to see facilities for visitors and more importantly them also being used by the residents!! Also dropped into Port Ramsay As good a place to spend a day as I can think off - long may the community thrive - will be back.

I came to Lismore when I was 17th, in 1955, as a student and paying guest. I was warmly received by all the people I met. I met a young men(16) named Lachlan Mac Donald, who became a dentist (in Glasgow?) and his sister Margaret (23)who was married. They where son and girl of "the captain" who stayed every day at the beach of the ferry. The pastor and his wife were also very friendly to me. This year I am 73, and I would like to see Lismore once again. With love to all Lismore people. I hope I can get to Lismore this year in august 2011.

Margaret and Lachlan still have the house at the Pier. Hope you manage over to the Island again

Thank you for a wonderful site. My Great Great Grandfather, Dugald McDonald, was born on Lismore in April, 1797, and it is most moving to see how beautiful the island is. The slide show is marvellous and I am going to have a look at the rest of information presented. Thank you again, Linda in Canada.

Linda - our Island genealogist would like to contact you regarding your GG Grandfather. You may have information that may be of help. ; Please send us an email if you are willing to get in touch.

I came upon your website while researching my family history. My great-grandfather was a McClay who came to the United States in the early 1900's and settled in Brooklyn, New York. I read that McClay is possibly a derivation of Clan MacLea, which reportedly is seated on the Isle of Lismore. I cannot wait to visit your Isle. Thank you for taking the time to maintain this website. Mark

We have a very good Heritage Centre on the Island, be sure and give them a visit if you ever come to the Island. Good luck with your research

This last June my sisters and I were at Lismore, where we enjoyed our much too short of a visit. We appreciated the hospitality John Livingstone, Archie McColl, Bessie Buchanan and the fine folks at the heritage center. We hope to return in 2012. Thanks, John Hayes
