2 Minutes 23rd June
These were agreed, with the following amendments
2.1 Date of meeting was 23rd June not 9th May, as noted on the mins.
2.2 Jubilee Bridge
Elaine confirmed that Argyll & Bute Council will adopt the bridge in the future, but the repairs proposed now are for emergency repairs necessary to keep the bridge open, not necessarily to bring it up to an adoptable standard.
3 Lismore Museum Grant Application
Jenny reported that the Museum’s CERS application has been successful.
4 Publications/Branding Lismore Leaflets
Marina showed the group the final Lismore leaflet, ready for printing. Donald Black will provide illustrations for the remaining Lismore walks for £200 each. It works well when folded into 2 for inclusion in the wallet proposed below.
Action: Mary will forward Marina her price for printing the Lismore leaflet
SNH are willing to fund a project at the museum for local record keeping. Action: Tony
5 Appin Leaflets & Walks
Work has been done on the format of the Appin Leaflet, which was approved by all. Alex can provide illustrations costing £120 each for colour and £80 each for black & white. It was agreed that printing quotes should be based on A5 160g paper, colour printed on both sides.
Symbols used on the Lismore Leaflet will be used on the Appin leaflet.
Dee will be asked to design an A5 wallet for all leaflets to go in, which can be used in both Appin & Lismore as required. The format will be simple, possibly in a ‘passport’ style so that people can log the walks they have completed. It will have a photograph incorporated, possibly aerial.
It was agreed that a charge would be made for the wallet and leaflets. In the future it may be possible to get funding from the WHelk Leader scheme.
Alex, Alison, Les & Issy have worked on the Appin walks and now have more information that can be incorporated into a grant application.
It was agreed that the layout and final details of the leaflets etc can be worked on while the grant application is in.
It was suggested that the Environmental Workforce Volunteers (Employability team) might be approached to carry out any routine maintenance works necessary in the future.
Action: Pauline will research photographs
Marina will contact Dee to progress with costing the wallet/Appin leaflets and forward to Carol
Carol will pull it all together for an Appin leaflet & walk grant application, based on all the information provided so far.
6 Business Seminar Update
It was agreed that the date should be moved to 24th October, as it was felt the September date clashed with a busy time for B&BS etc. Eric Spence will be the facilitator, and it was agreed that we should also invite a representative from Visit Scotland to be part of it. Scottish Seafoods have agreed to provide sponsorship. It was agreed that a flyer should be put up at the Appin Show, plus a contact sheet for people who express an interest.
Action:
Carol: to confirm the new date with Eric.
Pauline: will work on a flyer to be distributed – which can also go on the website (Jenny),
Jennifer: will confirm the booking with the museum, café and minibus when the date is finalised.
Mary: Poster to go up at the Appin Show
7 Jubilee Bridge
Action: Carol will send a copy of the detail to Bill Weston, Argyll & Bute Council, for their information, and will submit the SNH grant application. Copy of detail to Elaine also.
8 Signage at the Ferries
The idea of having three (Appin, Lismore x 2 ferry points), interpretation/visitor orientation signs specially designed for each site was discussed.
It was also noted that there is a lack of brown tourist signs on the main road. Alison is in contact with the council about this, and it was agreed that any Tony would liaise with her if he contacted them on Lismore’s behalf. It was also noted that the present parking problem at Appin prevents any action on encouraging more visitors with cars, at the moment.
Next Meeting Wednesday 10th October 2007 2:15pm at Appin Co-op
